Enid Mary Blyton (11 August 1897 – 28 November 1968) is arguably one of the most well known British children's authors of all time. The books in her "Famous Five" series are amongst her most popular stories for children of around 8 years of age and older.

The main characters (Julian, Dick, Anne, George and her dog Timmy) find themselves mixed up in all sorts of exciting adventures during their school holidays. George (real name Georgina) is an only child and lives at her parent's house in the village of Kirrin. Initially finding it difficult to make friends with her 3 cousins when they come to stay in the first book (Five on a Treasure Island) this soon changes after they share their first adventure together.

There are 21 books in the series. The first was published in 1942, but they remain very popular and are all widely available. The stories have also been adapted for Film, TV and radio, and are published internationally.

I remember learning to read so I could read the stories on my own.

Excellent!
